The Laws of Will-Making & Estate Planning"
About Our Event
Aside from representing our own established firm, Spencer & Co, we are also a group of final year law students from Northern University of Malaysia (UUM) and we are currently conducting a service learning project which is known as the SULAM project to identify the need and understanding of the UUM community in the making of will or wasiyyah as well as the estate planning for afterlife in Malaysia.
It is pertinent to note that our topic namely: "What You Should Know After A Death: The Laws Of Will-Making & Estate Planning" is aim to examine whether the UUM community able to understand the issues pertaining the execution of will or wasiyyah in Malaysia and the relevant administrative bodies or governing laws for testamentary matters as well as the procedures for estate planning after a death. This project will consists of five main stages which are investigation, preparation, action, reflection, and demonstration in order to serve as a better service platform for achieving the above-mentioned objectives while assisting our targeted community.

Five Main Stages

Investigation
We had a preliminary research on Law of Succession and Probate. A survey was then conducted among Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) community to investigate the need and understanding of the UUM community on the issues pertaining the execution of will or wasiyyah in Malaysia .
02.
Preparation
We had conducted several discussions for our upcoming event. We physically get together to determine the precise task scope and assign it to the members. By sending a formal letter to the appropriate department, a request for the event had been submitted. Three social media channels had been set up just to advertise our impending event.
03.
Action
We conducted a Legal Aid Booth titled "What You Should Know After A Death: The Laws of Will-Making & Estate Planning" at the pathway of DKG 1/1, COB, UUM on 15.12.2022. Fruitful and interesting legal knowledge in the aspect of wassiyah/will delivered to UUM communities successfully.
04.
Reflection
We wrote our own reflection upon completion of our Legal Aid Booth. It enable us to analyze our strengths and weaknesses during SULAM project conducted which enable us to improve ourself in the next occasion.
05.
Demonstration
We presented the overall presentation of our SULAM project in a video and summaries it in the point form in the aspect of how we relate our SULAM to all the the courses of Probate, ADR and Jurisprudence. We also shared what can be put into practice after this SULAM project.
